Are you a lakeside or streamside property owner? Take proactive steps to maintain clean water!

By opting for natural shoreline restoration, you can prevent erosion without resorting to artificial structures. Planting native plants and incorporating elements like rocks and logs not only safeguard against erosion but also create unique habitats for fish, amphibians, and small mammals.

RESTORATION IN THE FLAT AND LAKE CREEK WATERSHEDS

Experience the beauty and adventure of the Flat River watershed. Spanning across Montcalm, Kent, and Ionia counties, this expansive area covers approximately 564 square miles of land, with nearly half dedicated to agriculture. Immerse yourself in a variety of recreational activities along the river.

The Lake Creek watershed, located in Ionia County, spans over 185,000 acres. With more than two-thirds of the land dedicated to agriculture and over a fifth covered by forests, it presents a unique ecosystem. In collaboration with the Ionia Conservation District's watershed management plan funded in 2013, we have implemented effective conservation practices to enhance water quality. To further improve the watershed's condition and encourage participation from producers and residents alike, there are specific funding opportunities available through the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).
